Dr. Michael Summerfield

A leader in the specialty of cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Summerfield has spent over 10 years teaching his surgical techniques. His primary interests are in the areas of complex intraocular surgery, cataract and refractive surgery, and cornea cross-linking. In total, Dr. Summerfield has performed over 15,000 procedures. Dr. Summerfield served on faculty as Residency Program Director at Georgetown University. In addition, he has established a successful medical and surgical practice in the Washington D.C. metro area.

Dr. Summerfield has received multiple awards for research and teaching. He has published peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. He has been invited to lecture in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Summerfield is actively involved in many ophthalmologic societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is also actively involved as an editor of EyeWiki, an online resource for physicians and patients.

Dr. Summerfield enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife and two kids. On weekends you can find him watching his kids play soccer and hockey, camping, and running.
